O you who work wonders with a fair woman, keep company with a brother
O creator of a beauty, brother keep creating,
in sorrow: a year has passed for him, yet you have not kept him company.
A year has passed, yet you didn't keep creating,
فَقالَthen he said هَلdid صَيَّفَhe spent the summer فيin مساءَةٍmisery
فَقالَ هَل صَيَّفَ في مساءَةٍ

قُلتُ نَعَم وَفي هُمومٍ شَتّى
Then he said, “Did he spend the summer in misery?”
He asked: Did you spend it being unkind?
I said, “Yes—and he wintered amid manifold cares.”
I said: Yes, and in worries of many kinds.
