Taking a draught is my wont, and yet I
The rose is my wont, but I
Refrained from it, for a duty owed.
Refrained for dues I owed and debts unpaid.

When the palm of the lord of humankind rains down,
Did my lord hint that I might rest,
I desist from drinking, out of proper courtesy.
For his sake I curtailed the rose's claim.
