خليليّ هذي نجومُ الدُجَى

جَوارٍ جَوارٍ بَعُدْنَ مَنالا

My two friends, these stars of the dark night

My darling, these are the stars of dusk

are coursing maidens, far beyond reach.

Neighboring, neighboring, yet beyond reach

وقد أشْبَهَ البحْرُ مرآةَ هِندٍ

وقد أشْبَهَ البحْرُ مرآةَ هِندٍ

تُريكَ علَى البُعْدِ منْها مِثالا

تُريكَ علَى البُعْدِ منْها مِثالا

And indeed the sea resembles Hind’s mirror,

The sea resembles an Indian mirror

showing you her likeness from afar.
