I have attained, in every pleasing, beautiful quality,

something whose like was never attained in times gone by.

If my lord, from my belvedere, takes his place on a horizon of glory,

then where are Sana'a or Sayf ibn Dhi Yazan?

This is the loftiest edifice; so dwell in it,

as good fortune bids, and leave Ghumdan to Yemen.

Or if he takes his place in my belvedere at dusk, what right

has the sun, rather than I, to show the way?

And if he speaks of a quality by which I was ennobled,

you see him as Malik, narrating from al-Hasan.

I have become a gathering-place for bright stars and flowers,

just as his palm has become one for generosity and favors.

He is the imam whose everlasting beneficence

and beauty are a path guiding to the traditions.

For without him the blazing stars of guidance would not have shone,

and without him the paths of generosity would not have become clear.

Had his radiant countenance existed in days gone by,

Waddah would not have been called 'of Yemen.'

This is al-Nasir, the valiant lord; so leave aside

the memory of Amin, Ma'mun, and Mu'taman.

May he ever remain—with victory sought from his eminence—

granted his hoped-for wish in the homeland.
