أنا للحُسنِ مرْقَبٌ مشهورُ

أنا للحُسنِ مرْقَبٌ مشهورُ

لاحَ فيهِ المؤيَّدُ المنصورُ

لاحَ فيهِ المؤيَّدُ المنصورُ

I am beauty’s famed watchtower;

I am known for my love of beauty,

In it shone al-Mu’ayyad al-Manṣūr.

In it shines the supported, victorious one.

هو بدْرٌ لدى المحاسنِ منّي

هو بدْرٌ لدى المحاسنِ منّي

ولدى الحرْبِ فهْو ليثٌ هَصورُ

ولدى الحرْبِ فهْو ليثٌ هَصورُ

He is a full moon among my beauties,

He is a full moon among beauties coming from me,

And in war he is a ferocious lion.

And in war he is a well-equipped lion.

وقضى لي إبداعُهُ أنّ وَصفي

وقضى لي إبداعُهُ أنّ وَصفي

قصّرتْ عن مَدى حُلاهُ القُصورُ

قصّرتْ عن مَدى حُلاهُ القُصورُ

And his artistry ordained for me that my qualities

His excellence has decreed that my description

Have adornments beyond the reach of palaces.

Falls short of encompassing his perfections.

أجِهاتي ودُرُّ مدْحيَ فيها

أجِهاتي ودُرُّ مدْحيَ فيها

أمْ نحورٌ قد حُلّيتْ وخُصورُ

أمْ نحورٌ قد حُلّيتْ وخُصورُ

Are these my sides, with pearls of praise for me upon them,

My sides and the pearls of my praise in them

Or necks and waists already adorned?

Are either gazelles adorned and reserved,

حيثُ باهَتْ غُرَّ النجومِ خِلالي

حيثُ باهَتْ غُرَّ النجومِ خِلالي

وعلَيْها حُسْنُ الحُلَى مَقْصورُ

وعلَيْها حُسْنُ الحُلَى مَقْصورُ

Where my qualities rivaled the brightest stars,

Or stars whose radiance pales in my presence,

And the beauty of adornment is confined to them.

While the beauty of adornment focuses upon them.
