عجَباً أيُبْدِعُني الخليفةُ يوسُفٌ

عجَباً أيُبْدِعُني الخليفةُ يوسُفٌ

مَوْلَى المُلوكِ بمغْربٍ وبمَشْرِقِ

مَوْلَى المُلوكِ بمغْربٍ وبمَشْرِقِ

How strange! Does Caliph Yusuf leave me at a loss—

How amazing that Khalifah Yusuf inspires me

lord of kings in the West and the East—

Master of kings in West and East

وأريهِ راحةَ مانِعٍ أو جَفْنَ مَنْ

وأريهِ راحةَ مانِعٍ أو جَفْنَ مَنْ

هوَ نائِمٌ وفَمَ الذي لم ينْطِقِ

هوَ نائِمٌ وفَمَ الذي لم ينْطِقِ

while I show him a withholder’s palm, or the eyelid of one

And I show him the comfort of an objector or eyelid of one

who is asleep, and the mouth of one who has not spoken?
