تَبَسَّمَsmiled المُزنُthe rain cloud وَاِنهَلَّتand streamed down مَدامِعُهُits tears
تَبَسَّمَ المُزنُ وَاِنهَلَّت مَدامِعُهُ
فَأَضحَكَso made laugh الرَوضَthe meadow جَفنُthe eyelid of الضاحِكِthe laughing one الباكيthe weeping one
فَأَضحَكَ الرَوضَ جَفنُ الضاحِكِ الباكي
The rain cloud smiled, and its tears streamed down.
So the eyelid of the laughing weeper made the meadow laugh.
وَغازَلَand wooed الشَمسَthe sun نورٌa blossom ظَلِّkept يَلحَظُهاgazing at her
وَغازَلَ الشَمسَ نورٌ ظَلِّ يَلحَظُها
بِعَينِwith the eye of مُستَعبِرٍone moved to tears بِالدَمعِwith tears ضَحّاكِlaughing heartily
بِعَينِ مُستَعبِرٍ بِالدَمعِ ضَحّاكِ
And a blossom wooed the sun, keeping its gaze upon her,
With the eye of one who weeps yet laughs through tears.
