What ails me, that I have grown attached to a face that will not turn

toward me, and show affection to a heart that will not incline?

He is as eager to forsake me as I am to be close to him.

This, by my life, is truly discordant love.

I veiled my eye from the world and its splendor,

out of longing, and exposed it to sorrow and grief.

If my soul has not perished for you, then indeed

I have come, by God, to yearn for death.
