I complain of an ailing heart that you are destroying,

I complain of a heart, sick, you have ruined,

As a sick man complains to a beloved who puts him off with excuses.

Complaint of one in sickness to a healer who makes him more sick.

سقمي تزيد مع الأيام كثرته

سقمي تزيد مع الأيام كثرته

وأنت في عظم ما ألقى تقلله

وأنت في عظم ما ألقى تقلله

My sickness grows ever greater with the days,

My malady grows, day by day, worse,

Yet despite the enormity of what I suffer, you belittle it.

While you, however much I suffer, think it small.

اللَه حرم قتلي في الهوى سفهاً

اللَه حرم قتلي في الهوى سفهاً

وأنت يا قاتلي ظلماً تحلله

وأنت يا قاتلي ظلماً تحلله

God has forbidden my senseless slaying in love,

God forbids killing me, reckless with passion,

Yet you, O my unjust slayer, declare it lawful.

Yet you, my murderer, wrongfully make it lawful.
