هبوني أخفيت الذي بي من الهوى

هبوني أخفيت الذي بي من الهوى

ألم يك عن ما بي ضمير مترجما

ألم يك عن ما بي ضمير مترجما

Grant that I concealed the love within me:

Show me kindness, I hide that within me which is passion,

did not my inner self give voice to what was within me?

Did not my conscience act as translator of what is within me?

وما زلت أستحيي من الناس أن أرى

وما زلت أستحيي من الناس أن أرى

ظلوماً لألفي أو أرى متظلما

ظلوماً لألفي أو أرى متظلما

And I have always been ashamed before people to be seen

And I am still shy before people, that I should see

as unjust to my beloved, or to be seen complaining of injustice.

A wrong done to my beloved, or that I should see one wronged,

وباللَه ما حلت الغداة عن الذي

وباللَه ما حلت الغداة عن الذي

عهدت ولكن كنت إذا ذاك منعما

عهدت ولكن كنت إذا ذاك منعما

By God, this morning I have not changed from what

By Allah, the morning has not dawned since when

you knew of me; but then I was blessed.

I made a pledge, except that I was then content,

وقد ذاب قلبي اليوم شوقاً وصبوةً

وقد ذاب قلبي اليوم شوقاً وصبوةً

إليك وما ترثي لقلبي منهما

إليك وما ترثي لقلبي منهما

And today my heart has melted with longing and passion

And my heart melted today from yearning and love

for you, yet you show no pity for my heart's suffering from both.

For you, and none sympathizes with my heart about them,

فلا تتعجب أن تظلمت محوجاً

فلا تتعجب أن تظلمت محوجاً

فقد حان للمظلوم أن يتظلما

فقد حان للمظلوم أن يتظلما

So do not be surprised that, in my need, I have complained of injustice;

So do not be astonished that I complain wronged,

for the time has come for the wronged to complain of injustice.

For it is time for the wronged one to complain.
