its sword in defense of “Say: He is God, One.”
Whose sword for "Say: He, Allah, is One" is sharpened.

He called on the spears and they came erected
and India's blades, and they came ablaze.
And the Indian blades so they came burning.

It was as though the lance had had no point
It is as if previously the lance never had
ever before him, nor the sword an edge.
A yesterday, nor the sword an edge.

and struck with the faith's mightiest arm.
And thrust with the arm of firmest faith.

Many a land, through his sword's two edges—
Lord of a land through the strikes of his sword
the All-Merciful was proclaimed One and worshipped there.
Where the Merciful is one, single, and worshipped.

polytheism vanished there and was no longer found.
Polytheism is annihilated and lost.

He effaced their emblems, until indeed
He subdued their emblems until indeed
Sunday itself was almost unknown to them.
Their Sunday was almost hidden from them.

And a downpour unleashed, though verily
boldness flashed from him and thundered.
Valiant onslaught flashed from it and thundered.

They came for the admittance you had accustomed them to,
They attended the permission you accustomed them to,
like thirsty birds arriving in flocks at water.
Like the thirsty birds in droves alighting.
فَدَنَوْاso they approached واستوقَفَتْهُمْand halted them هَيْبَةٌawe

ملأَتْهُمْ من سُرورٍ وزُؤُدْ
They drew near, and awe halted them,
So they approached and were halted by an awe
filling them with joy and dread.
That filled them with joy and politeness.
فتوانَواso they lingered بقلوبٍwith hearts لمnot تَرِمْmoved away

So they lingered, with hearts that did not depart;
Then bodies drew near that did not waver,
then their bodies drew them near, though scarcely able.
Then they wished for the lofty peace
ثُمَّthen أَمُّواthey made for الراحَةَthe palm العُلْياexalted الَّتِيwhich

Then they made for the exalted palm that
That pervaded the world with safety and captivation.
embraced the world with safety and bounty.
