بَدَا لَكَ نَجْمُ السَّعْدِ واطَّلَعَ النُّجْحُ

بَدَا لَكَ نَجْمُ السَّعْدِ واطَّلَعَ النُّجْحُ

فبِاللهِ فَاسْتَفْتِحْ فقد جاءَكَ الفَتْحُ

فبِاللهِ فَاسْتَفْتِحْ فقد جاءَكَ الفَتْحُ

The star of good fortune has appeared to you, and success has risen into view;

The star of good fortune has appeared for you, and success has risen.

so seek victory in God’s name—for triumph has come to you.

So, by God, seek victory, for victory has come to you.

وَقَدْ قَدَّمَ النَّصْرُ العزيزُ لِواءَهُ

وَقَدْ قَدَّمَ النَّصْرُ العزيزُ لِواءَهُ

وقبلَ طُلوعِ الشَّمْسِ يَنْبَلِجُ الصُّبْحُ

وقبلَ طُلوعِ الشَّمْسِ يَنْبَلِجُ الصُّبْحُ

Mighty victory has already sent its standard on ahead,

And mighty victory has already advanced its banner,

and dawn breaks before the sun has risen.

and dawn breaks before the sun rises.

فَقُدْ فِي سبيلِ اللهِ جَيْشاً كَأَنَّهُ

فَقُدْ فِي سبيلِ اللهِ جَيْشاً كَأَنَّهُ

من الليلِ قِطْعٌ طَبَّقَ الأَرضَ أَوْ جُنْحُ

من الليلِ قِطْعٌ طَبَّقَ الأَرضَ أَوْ جُنْحُ

So lead, in the path of God, an army as though it were

So lead in God's cause an army that seems

a mass of night covering the earth—or night’s outspread wing:

a swath of night blanketing the earth, or night's darkness.

كتائِبُ فِي إِقدامِها الحَقُّ والهُدى

كتائِبُ فِي إِقدامِها الحَقُّ والهُدى

وأَلوِيَةٌ فِي عَقْدِها اليُمْنُ والنُّجْحُ

وأَلوِيَةٌ فِي عَقْدِها اليُمْنُ والنُّجْحُ

battalions whose bold advance embodies truth and guidance,

Battalions whose bold advance holds truth and guidance,

and standards whose very knots hold blessing and success.

and banners whose binding holds good fortune and success.

فَقَدْ حانَ يومُ الفتحِ واهْتَزَّتِ المُنى

فَقَدْ حانَ يومُ الفتحِ واهْتَزَّتِ المُنى

وصَحَّ رَجاءُ السَّيْفِ واستبشَرَ الرُّمْحُ

وصَحَّ رَجاءُ السَّيْفِ واستبشَرَ الرُّمْحُ

The day of conquest has come, and hopes thrill with joy;

For the day of victory has come, and hopes have stirred,

the sword’s expectation has proved true, and the spear exults.

and the sword's hope has proved true, and the spear rejoices.

وحَنَّتْ إِلَى يَومِ اللِّقاءِ سَوَابِحٌ

وحَنَّتْ إِلَى يَومِ اللِّقاءِ سَوَابِحٌ

لَهَا فِي بِحارِ المَوْتِ نَحْوَ العِدى سَبْحُ

لَهَا فِي بِحارِ المَوْتِ نَحْوَ العِدى سَبْحُ

Swift coursers have yearned for the day of encounter;

And fleet steeds yearn for the day of battle;

theirs is a course through seas of death toward the foe.

they swim through seas of death toward the foes.

حَمَلْتَ عليها كُلَّ حامِلِ نِعْمَةٍ

حَمَلْتَ عليها كُلَّ حامِلِ نِعْمَةٍ

بيُمْناكَ مقروناً بِهِ الصِّدْقُ والنُّصْحُ

بيُمْناكَ مقروناً بِهِ الصِّدْقُ والنُّصْحُ

Upon them you mounted every bearer of a boon

You mounted on them every recipient of a favor

from your right hand, accompanied by loyalty and sincere counsel.

from your right hand, with truthfulness and loyalty bound to him.

بضائِعُهُمْ فِي مَتْجَرِ الحَرْبِ أَنْفُسٌ

بضائِعُهُمْ فِي مَتْجَرِ الحَرْبِ أَنْفُسٌ

رِضاكَ لَهَا فِي كُلِّ مَلْحَمَةٍ رِبْحُ

رِضاكَ لَهَا فِي كُلِّ مَلْحَمَةٍ رِبْحُ

Their wares in the marketplace of war are their lives;

Their wares in the marketplace of war are their lives;

your favor is their profit in every battle.

your approval is their profit in every fierce battle.

فيا أَنْفَسَ الأَملاكِ نَفْساً وإِنَّهُ

فيا أَنْفَسَ الأَملاكِ نَفْساً وإِنَّهُ

بِهَا فِي سِبيلِ اللهِ يَوْمَ الوَغى سَمْحُ

بِهَا فِي سِبيلِ اللهِ يَوْمَ الوَغى سَمْحُ

O you whose soul is the most precious among kings—and yet

So, O most precious of kings in soul—and indeed he

in God’s path, on the day of battle, lavish with that soul!

is generous with it in God's cause on the day of battle.

ويا أَيُّهَا المشغوفُ بالبأْسِ والندى

ويا أَيُّهَا المشغوفُ بالبأْسِ والندى

وَمَا زالَ مشغوفاً بِهِ الحمدُ والمدحُ

وَمَا زالَ مشغوفاً بِهِ الحمدُ والمدحُ

O you enamored of valor and open-handed bounty,

And O you enamored of valor and generosity,

while praise and acclaim remain enamored of you;

and praise and acclaim have never ceased to be enamored of him.

وبَحْرُكَ مَوْرُودُ السَّواحِل مُفْعَمٌ

وبَحْرُكَ مَوْرُودُ السَّواحِل مُفْعَمٌ

وعَبْدُكَ قَدْ أَوْدَى بِهِ الظَّمَأُ البَرْحُ

وعَبْدُكَ قَدْ أَوْدَى بِهِ الظَّمَأُ البَرْحُ

your sea is brimful, its shores thronged by those who come to drink,

And your sea, its shores frequented, is brimful,

yet your servant is near death from tormenting thirst.

and your servant has already been undone by agonizing thirst.
