Be happy, as the days have been happy through you,

and be safe, as through you Islam is kept safe.

And dazzle with a kingdom whose pillars stand firm,

in a lofty height of glory beyond reach.

And enjoy a bathhouse whose omen is protection for you,

and, for your enemy, sorrow and death.

A work the auspicious stars built for you, made wondrous

    by wishes, where craftsmanship excelled.

And waters gushed within it, just as flow

in your palm generosity and bounty.

It brings opposites together, except that

within it, the temperaments of its seasons are apportioned.

As though your sword in your right hand had built it,

until dew and flame met within it.

And as though toward its waterspout flowed

steady rains, whose lightning mingles with cloud.

Its doors open wide onto a courtyard where dwells

the morning, and darkness has been driven out.

And there your horses pranced, with fluttering

    banners and standards above them.

Next comes the waters' gushing source, as though they were

showers from your bounty overflowing among mankind.

Then follows a temper drawn from springtime air,

in which night and day are equal,

leading to the likeness of noonday heat, whose fire

is coolness and peace for you, though it seethes.

As though it were a lovesick lover's breast, stirred

by burning longing and passion at the memory of the one he loves.

And from its water and its marble were formed

two forms that confound the imagination:

Is there frozen water beneath that water,

or has marble melted down upon the marble?

And as though the beloved's saliva flowed over

a mouth, like choice pearls threaded on a string.

    ترتاحُهُ الأَرواحُ والأَجسامُ

    For it is the place whose air suits the desire of souls;

spirits and bodies delight in it.

And it is time itself—its winter and its summer,

its autumn and its smiling spring.

And it is life—its bliss and its breeze,

and its joy, everlasting and enduring for you.

So delight in it, and in every blossom of life,

as long as doves sing above the boughs.
