وأيُّ زنادَيْ فتنةٍ أوْرَيا لَهَا

وأيُّ زنادَيْ فتنةٍ أوْرَيا لَهَا

سَنا صُبْحِ حَقٍّ فِي دُجى ليلِ باطِلِ

سَنا صُبْحِ حَقٍّ فِي دُجى ليلِ باطِلِ

And what a pair of fire-strikers of strife, which kindled for it

What a mire of tribulation Urya kindled,

the radiance of truth’s dawn in the darkness of falsehood’s night!

A dawn of truth in the darkness of false night.

وسيفَيْنِ رَدَّ اللهُ غَرْبَ شَباهُما

وسيفَيْنِ رَدَّ اللهُ غَرْبَ شَباهُما

تَلاَقٍ بصَفْحَيْ واصِلٍ لمُواصِلِ

تَلاَقٍ بصَفْحَيْ واصِلٍ لمُواصِلِ

And two swords whose blades’ keenness God turned back,

God turned aside the points of their two swords,

through a cheek-to-cheek meeting of one friend with another;

Meeting in good will for reconciliation.

حليفَيْنِ شَدَّا عقدَ مَا احْتلَفا لَهُ

حليفَيْنِ شَدَّا عقدَ مَا احْتلَفا لَهُ

ورَدَّا عليهِ عاطِفاتِ الوَسائِلِ

ورَدَّا عليهِ عاطِفاتِ الوَسائِلِ

two allies who tightened the bond of what they had sworn alliance for,

Two comrades who fortified their unity

and brought back to it the ties that foster affection.

And brought to bear on it all mediation.
