ذقنُ المعينِ الجزري

جَميعُها في قَذَري

جَميعُها في قَذَري

The beard of al-Muʿīn al-Jazarī—

The beard of Al-Mu'ayyad Al-Jazari

all of it is in my filth.

Is totally filthy

بَل قذَر الكّلبِ وحا

بَل قذَر الكّلبِ وحا

شايَ وَحاشا مَبْعري

شايَ وَحاشا مَبْعري

Rather, in a dog's filth—and far be it

Nay, filthier than a dog's filth, fie!

from me, and far be it from my dung-hole!

And shame on my clutter!

قالوا فَصِفهْ رْبّما

قالوا فَصِفهْ رْبّما

نَعرِفُه بِالخَبرِ

نَعرِفُه بِالخَبرِ

They said, “Then describe him; perhaps

They said, "Describe him, maybe

we will recognize him from the description.”

We'll recognize him by the news."

قلتْ لَهُم شيخٌ رَدٍ

قلتْ لَهُم شيخٌ رَدٍ

مَنْخَرْهُ كَمَنْ خري

His nostrils like a donkey's nostrils

وَشارِباهْ مثلْ شَعْ

رِ أستيَ بالخُرءِ الطّري

رِ أستيَ بالخُرءِ الطّري

and his two mustaches like the hair

And his moustache like my pubic hair

of my arse, with fresh shit.”
