فكانَ فريداً في الزَّمان مقدَّماً

فكانَ فريداً في الزَّمان مقدَّماً

عَلَيْهم وكلٌّ بالنتيجة بالي

عَلَيْهم وكلٌّ بالنتيجة بالي

So he was peerless in his age, set above

He was unique in his time, eminent

Them, while all, in the end, wear away.

Above them, while each was ineffectual.

مطاع أطاعَ الله سَراً وجهرةً

مطاع أطاعَ الله سَراً وجهرةً

فألبَسَهُ ثَوْبي حَياً وَجَلال

فألبَسَهُ ثَوْبي حَياً وَجَلال

Obeyed by others, he obeyed God in secret and openly,

Obeyed - he obeyed God openly and secretly -

So He clothed him in the two robes of modesty and majesty,

So He clothed him in splendor during life and in death.

وَشَرَّفَهُ بالأَشرف الملْك صاحباً

وَشَرَّفَهُ بالأَشرف الملْك صاحباً

كما يَكْتسي بدر الدجى بِكمال

كما يَكْتسي بدر الدجى بِكمال

And honored him with King al-Ashraf as a companion,

And honored him with the noblest kingdom, as a companion

Just as the full moon of the night is clothed in perfection.

As the full moon is clothed in the darkness' perfection.
