ياO قومُpeople أرضكًمُyour land الكريمةnoble هذهthis
يا قومُ أرضكًمُ الكريمة هذه
قَدindeed زُلزِلتwas shaken عندَat الضحىmidmorning زِلزالهَاher quake
قَد زُلزِلت عندَ الضحى زِلزالهَا
O people, this noble land of yours
O people, this generous land of yours
Has indeed been shaken at midmorning by her quake.
Was shaken at dawn by its tremor
ولقدand indeed خَرَجَناwe went out هاربينَfleeing معَwith الرَّدىdeath
ولقد خَرَجَنا هاربينَ معَ الرَّدى
أوor قيلَit was said عنّاabout us أخرَجَتْshe cast out أَثقالهاher burdens
أو قيلَ عنّا أخرَجَتْ أَثقالها
And indeed we went out fleeing, in death's company,
We fled with haste along with the wind
Or it was said of us: “She cast out her burdens.”
Or it was said we were driven out by its weights
أهوىfell down لهاupon her بُنيانُthe structure كلevery مُشَيّدlofty edifice
أهوى لها بُنيانُ كل مُشَيّد
وارتاعَand was terrified ذُعراًin terror منْwhoever رأىsaw أَهوالهَاher horrors
وارتاعَ ذُعراً منْ رأى أَهوالهَا
The structure of every lofty edifice fell upon her,
The structure of each builder collapsed
And whoever saw her horrors was struck with terror.
And whoever saw its horrors panicked
ماnot ذاكَthat إلاّexcept أَنَّthat ربّكyour Lord بالذيwith that which
ما ذاكَ إلاّ أَنَّ ربّك بالذي
فيهِin it الزواجِرُthe warnings للورىfor humankind أَوحىgave inspiration لهاto her
فيهِ الزواجِرُ للورى أَوحى لها
That was only because your Lord, with that

Which holds warnings for humankind, had inspired her.

يومٌa day تجلىmanifested Himself فيهon which اللهُGod فأشرَقَتْand so shone
يومٌ تجلى فيه اللهُ فأشرَقَتْ
أَنَوارُlights مَمْلَكةٍa kingdom تُريكَshows you جَلالَهاits majesty
أَنَوارُ مَمْلَكةٍ تُريكَ جَلالَها
A day when God manifested Himself, and there shone
A day in which God manifested and shone
The lights of a kingdom showing you its majesty.
The lights of a kingdom that shows you its majesty
فَتَصَدَّعَتْso split apart مصرُEgypt مخافةin fear of مكرِهِHis stratagem
فَتَصَدَّعَتْ مصرُ مخافة مكرِهِ
وعبرىand swept through (unclear form) الرَّجيفُthe tremor رِمالَهاher sands وَجبالَهاand her mountains
وعبرى الرَّجيفُ رِمالَها وَجبالَها
So Egypt split apart in fear of His stratagem,
Egypt cracked in fear of His plot
And the tremor swept through her sands and mountains.
And the tremor traversed its sands and mountains
خَشَعَتْhumbled themselves لهُbefore Him حتىeven المساجدُthe mosques سُجّداًprostrate
خَشَعَتْ لهُ حتى المساجدُ سُجّداً
حتىeven المآذنُthe minarets للركوعِto bow أمالهاHe bent them
حتى المآذنُ للركوعِ أمالها
Even the mosques humbled themselves before Him, prostrate;
Even the mosques bowed down in submission
Even the minarets He bent down to bow.
Even the minarets inclined for bowing
لولاwere it not for شفاعةُintercession أحمدٍAhmad خيرِbest of الورىhumankind
لولا شفاعةُ أحمدٍ خيرِ الورى
فيناon our behalf لَقَطّعَwould surely have severed رَبُّناour Lord أصالَهاher roots
فينا لَقَطّعَ رَبُّنا أصالَها
Were it not for the intercession of Ahmad, best of humankind,
If not for the intercession of Ahmed the best of creation
On our behalf, our Lord would surely have severed her roots.
Our Lord would have destroyed its roots
ياO ربّناour Lord تُبناwe have repented إِليكَto You فَوَقِّناso protect us
يا ربّنا تُبنا إِليكَ فَوَقِّنا
برسولِكَthrough Your Messenger الهاديthe guide الشفيعِthe intercessor نَكالَهاher chastisement
برسولِكَ الهادي الشفيعِ نَكالَها
O our Lord, we have repented to You; so protect us,
O our Lord turn us to You and make us steadfast
Through Your Messenger, the guide and intercessor, from her chastisement.
Through Your guiding intercessor, the greatest of its peers
