My heart is captivated by ʿAzza, she of honor,

    Enslaved by chaste love, sorrowful.

And never have I been consumed by scorching love for ʿAzza

Without my honor, in love's affairs, becoming abasement.

    Fair-skinned, with polished cheeks, soft,

As though she were a pearl concealed in the secluded chamber.

A beauty—the Creator's pen flowed and fashioned it

As script whose sight leaves the registers bewildered.

And her figure, in beauty, is an alif; her smiling mouth

A mīm; and her eyebrow, in its shape, a nūn.

And the curve of her temple-lock is a wāw; her eye

A ṣād; and the fringe of her hair, a sīn.
