Indeed, Ibn Ruzzayk is the chin

of the hollow at the root of his mother's womb—and my mother's,

my own; and his name is Wajih.

So marvel at his name joined with mine.

A saying for which I am not to blame

has combined an insult to him with an insult to me.

I praised him, yet he did not distinguish

between my praise of him and my censure.

Until, when I drew near him,

at once, reciting my verse aloud,

he wrinkled his nose at me, as though I

were in the bosom of his robe with my sleeve.
