عَلِّمْتُ تَيساً فَلَمْ يع

عَلِّمْتُ تَيساً فَلَمْ يع

دُدْ ذلك التَّفهيما

دُدْ ذلك التَّفهيما

I taught a he-goat, but he did not

I taught a goat, but that didn't help

take that explanation into account.

And my star became obscurity

وصارَ بالجَديِ نجمي

وصارَ بالجَديِ نجمي

وما عَرَفْتُ النُّجوما

وما عَرَفْتُ النُّجوما

And my star came to lie in Capricorn,

And I didn't know the stars

though I knew nothing of the stars.

And the goat is more guided than

والتّيسُ أَرشَدُ مِمّنْ

والتّيسُ أَرشَدُ مِمّنْ

لا يَقْبَلُ التّعليما

لا يَقْبَلُ التّعليما

And the he-goat is wiser than one

One who doesn't accept teaching

who does not accept instruction.
