    ما لهُ ساعةُ النّزاعِ نَصيرُ

    Every living being is bound for death;

    in the hour of death's agony, he has no helper.

    And the span of a long life, when

    night and day alternate, is short.

    Where are ʿĀd, Tubbaʿ, and the people of al-Rass?

    And where are those of old, and where is any helper?

    And fortunate is he who sees the paths of right guidance

    with the eye of certainty, while he is clear-sighted.
