وَفيand in كَبديmy liver لِلْواقِدِيِّfor al-Waqidi لَواعجٌburning pangs
وَفي كَبدي لِلْواقِدِيِّ لَواعجٌ
وَمَنْand who لِيَfor me أنto أَحظىI may attain بِذاكَwith that المبَرِّدِal-Mubarrid (the cooler)
وَمَنْ لِيَ أن أَحظى بِذاكَ المبَرِّدِ
And in my liver are burning pangs for al-Waqidi.
And who will help me win that al-Mubarrid?
كلِفْتُI became enamored بِرَشفيwith my sipping مِنْfrom سُلافةchoice wine حُبِّهِhis love
كلِفْتُ بِرَشفي مِنْ سُلافة حُبِّهِ
وَقَدْand indeed شَعْشَعَتْit sparkled كالكَوكَبِlike the star المتوقدِblazing
وَقَدْ شَعْشَعَتْ كالكَوكَبِ المتوقدِ
I am enamored of sipping from the choice wine of his love,
And it has sparkled like a blazing star.
