طبيب غدا في الكُحْل غيرَ مُوَفّق
لَهُhe has حكمةmedical wisdom تَجْنيdoes harm علىto العينthe eye والسَمْعand hearing
لَهُ حكمة تَجْني على العين والسَمْع
A physician has proved inept at applying kohl;
His medical wisdom harms both eye and ear.
إذاwhenever أرمَدsomeone with inflamed eyes وافاهُcomes to him يَشكوcomplaining of تألماًpain
إذا أرمَد وافاهُ يَشكو تألماً
منَfrom العينthe eye داوىhe treats العينَthe eye كالضِّرسlike a molar بالقمْعwith brute force
منَ العين داوى العينَ كالضِّرس بالقمْع
Whenever someone with inflamed eyes comes to him complaining of pain
In the eye, he treats the eye like a molar—with brute force.
