Whoever thinks that time will not afflict him

with calamities is indeed deluded.

فالق الزمان مهونا لخطوبه

وأنجرّ حيث يجرك المقدور

وأنجرّ حيث يجرك المقدور

So face time, making light of its calamities,

and let yourself be drawn wherever fate draws you.

وإذا تقلبت الأمور ولم تدم

وإذا تقلبت الأمور ولم تدم

فسواء المحزون والمسرور

فسواء المحزون والمسرور

And when affairs change and do not endure,

then the sorrowful and the joyful are alike.
