Say to the vizier Abu Muhammad al-Radi,
Tell Abu Muhammad al-Razi, whose deeds stand lofty,
Whose deeds are devoted to the heights of glory:
Your sky thundered over my courtyard with its clouds,
رعدتthundered سماؤكyour sky ساحتيmy courtyard بسحابهاwith its clouds
فأناso I أشيمI watch for بوارقlightning flashes الانواءthe rainstorms
Your sky has thundered over my courtyard with its clouds;
So I smell the flags of showers.
So I watch for the lightning flashes of the rainstorms.
When you speak at length, my words flow joyfully,
واذاand if مطلتyou delay مضتwill fade بشاشةcheerfulness منطقيmy speech
وذويand will wither قضيبbough الروضةthe garden الغناءluxuriant
And if you delay, the cheerfulness of my speech will fade,
Like the singing streams in the meadow.
And the bough of the luxuriant garden will wither.
