وَلَيلَةٍand a night مِنamong لَياليthe nights of الصَّفحِforgiveness قَدindeed جَمَعَتit brought together
وَلَيلَةٍ مِن لَيالي الصَّفحِ قَد جَمَعَت
إِخوانَfriends صِدقٍsincerity وَوَصلُwhile fellowship الدَّهرِtime مُختَلَسُsnatched
إِخوانَ صِدقٍ وَوَصلُ الدَّهرِ مُختَلَسُ
And a night among the nights of forgiveness brought together
True friends—while fellowship in life is a stolen moment.
كانُواthey were عَلىaccording to سُنَّةِthe custom of الأَيّامِthe days قَدalready بَعُدُواthey had grown distant
كانُوا عَلى سُنَّةِ الأَيّامِ قَد بَعُدُوا
فَأَلَّفَتso it reunited شَملَهُمtheir company لَوif only ساعَدَhad helped الغَلَسُthe predawn darkness
فَأَلَّفَت شَملَهُم لَو ساعَدَ الغَلَسُ
They had grown apart, as is the way of days;
So it reunited them—if only the predawn darkness had helped.
