يا ثِقاتي نَقَل الأَعـ

ـداءُ لي عنكم وَعنّي

ـداءُ لي عنكم وَعنّي

O my trusted ones, the enemies have reported

O my trusted ones, the enemies have conveyed to me about you and me

to me about you and about me.

Except with the life of love, you were to me as per my assumption

بِحَياة الحُبِّ إِلّا

بِحَياة الحُبِّ إِلّا

كُنتُمُ لي عند ظَنّي

كُنتُمُ لي عند ظَنّي

By the life of love, I implore you:

Beware leaving me lovelorn in my old age

be to me as I expect you to be.

Torment me with everything except showing resentment

احذَروا أن تَترُكوني

احذَروا أن تَترُكوني

في الهَوى أقرَعُ سنّي

في الهَوى أقرَعُ سنّي

Beware lest you leave me

For whenever you defamed me, the envious were delighted with me

in love, gnashing my teeth.

If I wanted anyone but you, may God not soothe my eyelids

عَذِّبوا بكُلِّ شيءٍ

عَذِّبوا بكُلِّ شيءٍ

غيرِ إظهار التَجنّي

غيرِ إظهار التَجنّي

Torment me with anything

I wished for nothing but you were my utmost desire

except a display of unjust reproach.

I am drunk with your love, and with your memories I sing

فمتى شُنِّع عنكم

فمتى شُنِّع عنكم

اشتَفى الحُسّادُ مِنّي

اشتَفى الحُسّادُ مِنّي

For whenever slander is spread about you,

Everyone drinks from a cup, while I alone have a barrel

the envious satisfy their spite against me.

So they have one art, while in my joys I have a thousand arts

إن أكُن أبغي سواكم

إن أكُن أبغي سواكم

لا أَقرَّ اللَهُ جَفني

لا أَقرَّ اللَهُ جَفني

If I should seek anyone but you,

may God grant my eyelid no rest.

لم أُمَنِّ النَفسَ إلّا

لم أُمَنِّ النَفسَ إلّا

كنتمُ أقصى التَمنّي

كنتمُ أقصى التَمنّي

Never did I fill my soul with hopes but

you were the utmost of my longing.

انا سكرانُ هواكم

انا سكرانُ هواكم

وَبِذِكراكم أُغَنّي

وَبِذِكراكم أُغَنّي

I am drunk with love for you,

and in remembrance of you I sing.

شَرِب الكُلُّ بِكَأسٍ

شَرِب الكُلُّ بِكَأسٍ

وأنا وَحدي بدَن

وأنا وَحدي بدَن

Everyone drank from a cup,

while I alone drank from a wine jar.

فلهم فَنٌّ ولي في

فلهم فَنٌّ ولي في

نَشَواتي ألفُ فَنِّ

نَشَواتي ألفُ فَنِّ

So they have one art, while I have, in

my ecstasies, a thousand arts.
