Yā-Sīn is fixed with a vowelless ending; thus it has no

existence in the intellect, nor a nature that might steal it away.

Its essence is the heart, and turning is its disposition.

Yet it is millstone-like; its illuminator is within it.

It has no stillness, for it is in joy,

nor has it any motions during its agitation.

Affairs belong to it, and above the Throne is its dwelling,

with God, through whom it has its reality.

Its attachment is to what it has from Him,

just as it takes on the qualities of His most beautiful names.

It is Being, and its form never ceases to be

with the beauty through which its passionate love arises.

Ecstasy stills it, while longing unsettles it.

And in what it claims, the command precedes it.

    لذاك جاء ليشقى وهو يخلقه

    Unlike Ṭā-Hā, for the open a-vowel is inseparable from it;

therefore it came to suffer, while He creates it.

    It is the ever-new, whose very essence is creation;

at every instant, with each breath, He creates it.

Through generosity He brought it into being; through created existence He bounded it.

And through self-disclosure He nourishes it and provides for it.

He gave it its surah, and it took possession of its surah.

Through Him it is bound, and from Him it is released.

Through Him it is made real; from Him it is created.

Within Him it is passionately loved, and for Him it is made to yearn.

Indeed, Being has a limit and a ground

in created things, and my states confirm it.

And Nūn and Qāf, with Ṣād, are intermediaries that have appeared,

bestowing self-sufficiency while drowning it in the Names.

And when the splendors of the Face appeared and made contact,

their lights burned the cosmos at once.

One of the most wondrous things is that the veil hangs down,

and the light is behind it, yet does not pierce it.

And every veil is composite, as is attested for me

by its parts; yet you do not come to tear it apart.
