إذا شمسُ النفوسِ أرتْ ضُحاها

تزايدتِ القلوبُ بما تلاها

تزايدتِ القلوبُ بما تلاها

When the sun of souls shows its morning radiance,

the hearts grow through what follows it.

تراها فيه حالاً بعد حالٍ

تراها فيه حالاً بعد حالٍ

ومجلاها الهلالُ إذا تلاها

ومجلاها الهلالُ إذا تلاها

You see it therein, state after state,

and its place of manifestation is the crescent when it follows it.

وإني من حقيقتِه بسرِّي

وإني من حقيقتِه بسرِّي

كمثلِ الشمسِ إذ تُعطي سناها

كمثلِ الشمسِ إذ تُعطي سناها

And indeed I, in my secret self, am of His reality,

like the sun when it gives its radiance.

فما أنا في الوجودِ سواه عيناً

فما أنا في الوجودِ سواه عيناً

وما همُ في الوجودِ بنا سواها

وما همُ في الوجودِ بنا سواها

So in existence I am none other than Him in essence,

and in existence, through us, they are none other than it.

فتلك سماؤنا لما بناها

فتلك سماؤنا لما بناها

وهذي أرضنا لما طحاها

وهذي أرضنا لما طحاها

That, then, is our heaven when He built it,

and this is our earth when He spread it out.

من أجلي كان ربي في شؤون

من أجلي كان ربي في شؤون

وقد بلغتْ فواكهكم أناها

وقد بلغتْ فواكهكم أناها

For my sake my Lord was engaged in affairs,

and already your fruits have reached their ripeness.

سنفرغ منكمُ جوداً إليكم

سنفرغ منكمُ جوداً إليكم

لتعطي نفوسَكم منها مناها

لتعطي نفوسَكم منها مناها

We shall be done with you, in generosity toward you,

so that it may grant your souls their desires from itself.

ويلمحها بذاتٍ منه لما

ويلمحها بذاتٍ منه لما

علمتُ بأنها كانت سداها

علمتُ بأنها كانت سداها

And He glimpses it through an essence from Him, when

I learned that it had been its warp.

يعذبنا النهار سُدى وويلاً

يعذبنا النهار سُدى وويلاً

وليلته يعذبنا نداها

وليلته يعذبنا نداها

Day torments us, in vain and with woe;

and its night—its dew torments us.

فغطاها الظلامُ بسرِّ كوني

فغطاها الظلامُ بسرِّ كوني

وجلاها النهارُ وما جلاها

وجلاها النهارُ وما جلاها

Then darkness covered it with the secret of my being,

and day revealed it—and did not reveal it.
