إذا بدتْ سبحاتُ الوجه فاستتر

إذا بدتْ سبحاتُ الوجه فاستتر

فالنورُ يذهبُ بالأعيان والأثر

فالنورُ يذهبُ بالأعيان والأثر

When the splendors of the Face appear, conceal yourself.

When the radiance of the face appears, veil it,

For the light does away with beings and traces.

For light removes forms and traces.

وانظر إلى من وراءَ النورِ مستتراَ

وانظر إلى من وراءَ النورِ مستتراَ

ترى الضياءَ فأمعن فيه بالبصر

ترى الضياءَ فأمعن فيه بالبصر

And, concealed, look toward the One behind the light.

Yet look beyond the light to what lies hidden -

You will see the radiance; then gaze deeply into it with your eyes.

You will see splendor, so gaze intently.

وقل لقلبك أمسكْ عنه شاهدَه

وقل لقلبك أمسكْ عنه شاهدَه

فعند ردّك تلقى لذة النظر

فعند ردّك تلقى لذة النظر

And tell your heart to withhold its witness from Him.

Say to your heart: Withhold your testimony!

For when you turn back, you find the delight of gazing.

Only in turning back will you know blissful sight.
