When I saw an existence without limit,

I came running toward it, while it ran with me.

Then it said to me, speaking to me from my own essence:

Indeed, the existence you saw is absence.

So I said, “You are with me”; it said, “You are with me.”

Like the one by which, in our reckoning, the one is multiplied.

When I saw that my existence did not part from me,

I knew that the master's existence is the servant.

Thus its form appeared in the Book of God:

The command belongs to God, before and after.

The Real is with me, alongside me, through me, and is my mainstay,

In every state, when I go forth at evening or in the morning.

    Bounty seeks my existence, so it is a support for me;

And in our individual entities, we cannot do without it.

Like His most beautiful names, which were established

By the text; delimitation and enumeration seek them.

    فيها الخلافُ وفيها المثلُ والضدّ

    Indeed, minds enumerate them in detail;

In them is difference, and in them are likeness and opposition.

The same rule holds for my being; as for me,

I affirm them, so theirs are affirmation and ecstasy.

And the dream within us, which grants our realities

Unbinding and binding, softening and tightening—

It is that which has never ceased concealing its reality

Through the way it appears today before our eyes.

From it come things that bring misery, and we are gladdened

By others; misguidance and right guidance attest to this.
