When I cried, “O God,” an “At Your service!” answered from deep within.
When I said, “O God,” he answered from the depths within.
Then I listened toward the voice, while the eye lay beneath a veil.
So I listened toward the voice, while the eye was veiled.

إذا طلع الليل الإلهي في العشا
My witnessing said, as I contemplated my Witness,
And my witnessing said, if you contemplate my witness,
when the divine night rose amid the darkening dusk:
when the divine night rises in the evening.

“For I am the Odd, whom your essence has not made even,
For I am unpaired; your essence has not made me even,
for you are among the mourners at nightfall.
because you are among the people of consolation, with dim sight.
وإنand if شئتyou wished قلتI said العينthe essence منيin me عينهhis essence
وإن شئت قلت العين مني عينه
وإنand if مدمنهstretches from himself (reading مدّ منه) نحوtoward أعيانناour essences الرشاthe rope

And if you wish, say: the eye within me is His eye.
And if you wish, I say: the essence in me is his essence.
And if He stretches ropes from it toward our very essences,
And if he stretches the rope from himself toward our essences,

and my eye and His come there bearing my attribute,
and comes with an attribute containing my essence and his,
then He who forbade bribes accepts the loan.
thus the one who forbade bribes accepts a loan.

Whoever is in such a state is a witness
And whoever is in this state bears witness
to this: that reason, amid thought, is veiled.
against himself that the intellect is veiled in thought.

لهfor him ترفعare lifted الأستارthe veils فيat الحالِthe present moment إنif يشاhe wills
له ترفع الأستار في الحالِ إن يشا
For there is nothing there but unveiling, nothing besides it.
So there is nothing there but unveiling; nothing else is there.
Through it the veils are lifted at once, if He wills.
For him the veils are lifted at once, if he wills.

ومَنْ يقبلِ النقصانَ قد يقبل المشا
There is no veil there, except that I myself posited it;
And there is no veil there except one I have posited.
and whoever accepts deficiency may accept the Peripatetic school.
And whoever accepts deficiency may accept walking.

He is the radiant moon within it, just as
He is the sun, the embroidered meadow, and the young gazelle.
he is the sun, the embroidered garden, and the fawn.
