ألبستُ من همومنا اليومَ خرقَتنا

ألبستُ من همومنا اليومَ خرقَتنا

لباسَ تقوى وفيه بعضُ ما فيه

لباسَ تقوى وفيه بعضُ ما فيه

Today I clothed one of our aspirations in our patched cloak—

Today, out of our cares, I clothed our patched cloak

a garment of God-consciousness, holding something of what it holds.

In a garment of piety; within it is some of what it holds.

إذا يصح له من أصله نَسبٍ

إذا يصح له من أصله نَسبٍ

صحَّ اللباسُ لباسَ الفخرِ والتيه

صحَّ اللباسُ لباسَ الفخرِ والتيه

If his lineage back to its source proves sound,

If his lineage from his origin proves sound,

then the investiture is sound—a robe of glory and proud bearing.

Then the garment is truly a garb of pride and haughtiness.

وأيُّ فخرٍ يسامي فخر ذي نَسبٍ

وأيُّ فخرٍ يسامي فخر ذي نَسبٍ

تفخر العلمُ منه في نواحيه

تفخر العلمُ منه في نواحيه

What glory can rival the glory of one possessed of lineage,

And what pride can rival the pride of one with lineage,

in whom the world glories throughout all its realms?

Of whom knowledge boasts throughout its domains?

فليلبس الولدُ المحفوظُ خرقَتنا

فليلبس الولدُ المحفوظُ خرقَتنا

على الشروطِ التي ضمنتُها فيه

على الشروطِ التي ضمنتُها فيه

So let the protected son don our patched cloak,

So let the protected son wear our patched cloak

under the conditions I have included within it:

وهي التزيُّن بالأخلاقِ أجمعها

وهي التزيُّن بالأخلاقِ أجمعها

محمودها في الذي يبدي ويخفيه

محمودها في الذي يبدي ويخفيه

to adorn himself with every virtue of character,

These are to adorn oneself with all traits of character—

with Muhammad as their exemplar in whatever he reveals or conceals.

The praiseworthy ones—in what he reveals and conceals.
