رُفع الحجاب فأشرقت أنوارُه

This is the station, and these are its mysteries.

وبدا هلالُ التمّ يسطعُ نورُه

للناظرين وزالَ عنه سرارُه

The crescent of perfection appeared, its light aglow

for all beholders, and its dark concealment passed away.

فأنار روضَ القلبِ في ملكوته

وأتتْ بكلِّ حقيقة أشجارُه

وأتتْ بكلِّ حقيقة أشجارُه

It illumined the heart’s garden within its spiritual realm,

and its trees came bearing every truth.

عند التنزُّلِ صحَّ ما يختارُه

عند التنزُّلِ صحَّ ما يختارُه

قلبٌ أحاطت بالردى أستارُه

At the descent, whatever it chooses proves true.

My heart—its veils enclosed it in ruin.

وبدا النسيمُ ملاعباً أغصانه

وبدا النسيمُ ملاعباً أغصانه

فهفت بأسرار العلى أطيارُه

فهفت بأسرار العلى أطيارُه

The breeze appeared, caressing its boughs,

and its birds yearned for the mysteries of the heights.

جادتْ على أهل الروائحِ مِنة

جادتْ على أهل الروائحِ مِنة

منه برّيا طيبها أزهارُه

منه برّيا طيبها أزهارُه

It lavished a gracious gift upon the people of spiritual fragrance:

As a favor, there was lavished upon the people of fragrances

from it came a scent made sweet by its blossoms.

from him the sweet perfume of his blossoms.

هام الفؤاد بحبه فتقدّسّتْ

هام الفؤاد بحبه فتقدّسّتْ

أوصافه وتنزَّهت أفكارُه

أوصافه وتنزَّهت أفكارُه

The heart grew rapt in love of Him, and so its qualities

وتنزَّل الروحُ الأمين لقلبِه

The Faithful Spirit descended into its heart

إنّ الفؤاد مع التنزُّل واقفٌ

ما لم يصح إلى النزيل مطارُه

Indeed, the heart stands poised at the descent

until its flight toward the arriving Guest is made true.

so long as its flight to the guest is not sound.

من كان يشغله التكاثرُ لم يكن

بعثته يومَ ورودِه اكثاره

Whoever is distracted by rivalry in abundance will find

One whom amassing more distracts was not

that his plenty avails him nothing at his resurrection, the day he arrives.

من فتي لحقيقة يصبر على

من فتي لحقيقة يصبر على

لأوائها حتى يرى مقداره

لأوائها حتى يرى مقداره

Who is the true champion who, for a Reality, patiently endures

Whoever is a youth devoted to a truth patiently bears

its hardships until he sees its worth?

لا كالذي أمسى لذاك منافراً

لا كالذي أمسى لذاك منافراً

والمنتمي من لا يخاف نفاره

والمنتمي من لا يخاف نفاره

Not one who has become averse to it, recoiling;

Not like one who became averse to that;

the true devotee is one who does not fear its power to repel.

and one who belongs is one who does not fear his aversion.

من يدَّعي أن الحبيب أنيسه

من يدَّعي أن الحبيب أنيسه

في حاله فدليله استبشارُه

في حاله فدليله استبشارُه

Whoever claims that the Beloved is his intimate companion—

Whoever claims that the Beloved is his companion

in his spiritual state, his joy is his proof.

من يدَّعي حكم الكيان فإنه

قد تيمته بحبها أغياره

Whoever claims dominion over the realm of being—indeed,

its dust has enslaved him through love of it.

سبحانه فشهوده أذكاره

Whoever claims that he belongs among His own—

أمر يعرّف شرعه ودثاره

Witnesses are the emblem of one who has attained Being—

a matter whose sacred law and outward mantle are known.

وأنينه مما يجنّ وصمته

عنه وعبرة وجده وأواره

His moaning springs from what he conceals, while his silence

speaks of it—as do his tears, ecstasy, and burning ardor.

ما نال من جعل الشريعةَ جانباً

Whoever sets the Sacred Law aside attains

nothing, though his beacon should reach the sky.

تجري على حكم الهوى آثارُه

The spiritual state is either a witness or an influx;

والناسُ إمّا مؤمن أو جاحدٌ

People are either believers or deniers,

or pretenders wearing hypocrisy as their badge.

المنزل العالي المنيفُ بناؤه

المنزل العالي المنيفُ بناؤه

واهٍ متى ما لم تقم عماره

واهٍ متى ما لم تقم عماره

The lofty abode, sublime in its construction,

The lofty dwelling, towering in its construction,

is frail whenever its supporting pillars fail to stand.

العقل إن جاريتَه في رأيه

فلك على نيل المقامِ مداره

Reason—if you keep pace with it in its judgment—

is the axis upon which your attainment of the station turns.

لو كان تسعده النفوسُ وإنما

If souls could bring him happiness—but instead

his burdens barred him from attaining the heights.

في الحال حَفَّ ببابه زوّارُه

But when providential care comes to him from his Lord,

ورأيته لما تخلص روحه

You see him when his spirit slips free

وقد امتطى رحبَ اللبانِ مدبراً

يُدعى البُراق فما يُشق غُباره

Then he mounts a broad-chested steed, departing,

Fierce and violent winds plunge onward with him, and he is hurled

ما زال ينزل كل نور لائح

من جانبيه فما يقرّ قرارُه

Every gleaming light continues to descend

حتى بدت شمسُ الوجود لقلبه

وبدا لعينِ فؤاده إضماره

until the sun of Being appears to his heart

and what he concealed appears to his heart’s inward eye.

وتلاقت الأرواح في ملكوته

وتلاقت الأرواح في ملكوته

فتواصلت ببحاره أنهاره

The spirits meet within its spiritual realm,

The spirits met in his unseen kingdom,

and its rivers join with its seas.

مدّ اليمين لبيعته مخصوصة

مدّ اليمين لبيعته مخصوصة

أبدى لها وجه الرضى مختاره

أبدى لها وجه الرضى مختاره

He extends the right hand specially appointed for his pledge;

His Chosen One shows that hand the face of approval.

لما بدا حسنُ المقامِ لعِينه

عقدت عليه خلافة أزراره

When the beauty of the station appears to his eye,

the clasps of the caliphate are fastened upon him.

ثم التوى يطوي الطريق لجسمه

ليلاً حذار أن يبوحَ نهاره

Then he turns back, folding the road away for his body

by night, lest its daylight disclose the secret.

وأتت ركائبه لحضرة ملكه

بودائع يعتادهاأبرارُه

His mounts come into the presence of His kingdom,

His envoys set forth bearing his decree

وحمت جوانبه سيوف عزائم

منه وطاف ببابه سُمَّارُه

Swords of firm resolve, issuing from him, guard his flanks,

من يدَّعي حُبَّ الإمام فإنما

قذفت به نحو المنون بحارُه

Whoever claims love for the Imam—surely

his seas have cast him toward death.

عَضْبِ المضاربِ لايُفلّ غِرارُه

He assails the host of the cosmos with his sword,

keen-edged in battle, its cutting edge never notched.

مَنْ يهتدي أهل النهى بمنارة

ذاك الخليفة تُقتفى أثارُه

A grace: the discerning are guided by a beacon—

The one by whose beacon the people of reason find guidance—

ليبايعون من اعتلَّت أسرارُه

Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you—they

pledge allegiance to the One whose mysteries are exalted.

فيمينك الحجر المكرَّم فيهم

يا نصبة خضعت له أخياره

Thus your right hand is the Honored Stone among them,

Your right hand, then, is the honored Stone among them.

O banner before which His chosen ones have bowed!

O emblem, to whom his chosen ones have bowed!

يا بيعة الرضوان دمت سعيدة

يا بيعة الرضوان دمت سعيدة

حتى تعطَّل للإمام عشاره

حتى تعطَّل للإمام عشاره

O Pledge of Riḍwān, may you remain blessed

O Pledge of Riḍwān, may you remain blessed

until the Imam’s full-term she-camels are left untended.

until the Imam's ten-month-pregnant she-camels are left untended.

إنَّ الديار بلاقع ما لم يكن

إنَّ الديار بلاقع ما لم يكن

صفواً للحبيبين نزيلها ونضاره

صفواً للحبيبين نزيلها ونضاره

Indeed, dwellings are wastelands unless

Indeed, the dwellings are barren wastes unless

their guest and their bloom are wholly devoted to the two Beloveds.

المالُ يُصلح كلَّ شيء فاسدٍ

المالُ يُصلح كلَّ شيء فاسدٍ

وبه يزول عن الجواد عثارُه

وبه يزول عن الجواد عثارُه

Wealth sets every corrupted thing aright,

Wealth sets right every corrupted thing,

and through it the generous man’s stumbling is removed.
