But the branch is not established by the root.

The root has no root, so consider

The stature of the One who has no root.

The Real called to me through His Qur'an:

“O doer who has no act!”

So I said: At Your service! Thus we know:

For the command, afterward and beforehand,

Belongs to God, our Master—but through us.

A subtle truth that grace has brought

For everyone endowed with unveiling and discernment,

Which generous bestowal has specially endowed with this.
