فضاقت بما جاءت عليّ مذاهبي

The dispatches came in succession from every side,

Revelations came from every side

So my paths grew narrow for me through what they brought.

My beliefs were too narrow for what came

سررتُ بها لما علمت وجودها

من الله ذي العَرشِ المجيد المطالبِ

I rejoiced in them when I knew they came

I rejoiced in them when I knew of their existence

From God, Lord of the glorious Throne, who demands

From God, Lord of the glorious throne, the petitioned

بما كلف الإنسان مما أتت به

بما كلف الإنسان مما أتت به

شرائعه والحقُّ عينُ المخاطب

شرائعه والحقُّ عينُ المخاطب

What He has enjoined upon humankind, as conveyed

With what He tasked man with, of what His

By His laws—and the Real is Himself the speaker.

Laws brought, and truth is the eye of the addressed

سمعنا أجبنا طاعةً لإلهنا

سمعنا أجبنا طاعةً لإلهنا

وما الشان إلا في صَدوقٍ وكاذبِ

وما الشان إلا في صَدوقٍ وكاذبِ

We heard; we answered in obedience to our God.

We heard and obeyed, in obedience to our God

And the matter concerns only the truthful and the liar,

And glory is only found in the honest and truthful

إذا جاءت الأملاك تحملُ عرشَه

إذا جاءت الأملاك تحملُ عرشَه

وتعضدها أمثالها في السحائبِ

وتعضدها أمثالها في السحائبِ

When the angels come bearing His throne,

When the angels come carrying His throne

And their like support them amid the clouds,

Supported by the likes of them in the clouds

وتأتي بما يقضيه بين عباده

وتأتي بما يقضيه بين عباده

لينتصفَ المظلومُ من ظلم غاضبِ

لينتصفَ المظلومُ من ظلم غاضبِ

And they bring what He decrees between His servants,

And bring what He decrees between His servants

So the wronged may obtain redress for an angry person's injustice.

So the oppressed can get justice from an angry oppressor
