    The dearest of God's lands to me, after Taybah,

    Mecca and al-Aqsa, is the city of Baghdad.

    And why should I not love the City of Peace, when there I have

    an imam of guidance for my religion, my creed, and my faith?

    And one of Persia's young daughters has dwelt there,

    delicate in gesture, with languid eyelids.

    فَجاءَت بِحُسنى بعدَ حُسنٍ وَإِحسانِ

    She greets, and so revives whoever she slew with her glance;

    thus she brought a good deed after beauty and kindness.
