لبستْ صَفيةُ بنتُ ابنتِنا

لبستْ صَفيةُ بنتُ ابنتِنا

خِرقةً ضمنْتها كلَّ المنى

خِرقةً ضمنْتها كلَّ المنى

Safiyya, our daughter's daughter, donned

a patched cloak in which I placed every hope,

مثل ما ضمَّ من الخيرلنا

مثل ما ضمَّ من الخيرلنا

زمنَ الرمي بأيامِ منى

زمنَ الرمي بأيامِ منى

like the goodness gathered for us

at the time of stoning, during the days of Mina.

وسألتُ الله أن يعصمها

وسألتُ الله أن يعصمها

من أذى النفس ومن كل خنا

من أذى النفس ومن كل خنا

And I asked God to protect her

from the self's harm and from all indecency,

يومَ تُجزى كلُّ نفسٍ سعيها

يومَ تُجزى كلُّ نفسٍ سعيها

ولنا ما أيضاً هناكم وهنا

ولنا ما أيضاً هناكم وهنا

on the day each soul is recompensed for its striving;

and we, too, have what is there and here.

وسألت الله أن ينبتها

وسألت الله أن ينبتها

مثل ما قال نباتاً حسنا

مثل ما قال نباتاً حسنا

And I asked God to make her grow,

as He said, with a goodly growth,

في أمانٍ وانتظام بهدي

في أمانٍ وانتظام بهدي

واغتباطٍ بسرورٍ وهَنا

واغتباطٍ بسرورٍ وهَنا

in safety and order through guidance,

and gladness, with joy and bliss.
