لبستْ صفيةُ خرقةَ الفقراءِ

لمّا تحلتْ حِلية الأمناءِ

Safiyya donned the patched robe of the poor,

Safiya donned the robe of the poor,

when she adorned herself with the adornment of the trustworthy.

When she was adorned with the jewels of the trustees.

وأتتْ بكلِّ فضيلةِ وتنزَّهتْ

وأتتْ بكلِّ فضيلةِ وتنزَّهتْ

عن ضدّها فعلَتْ على النظراءِ

عن ضدّها فعلَتْ على النظراءِ

And she brought forth every virtue and kept herself free

She attained every virtue and became aloof,

of its opposite, so she rose above her peers.

From its opposite, astonishing peers.

وتكالمت أخلاقها وتقدَّست

وتكالمت أخلاقها وتقدَّست

وتخلَّقتْ بجوامعِ الأسماء

وتخلَّقتْ بجوامعِ الأسماء

And her virtues conversed with one another and became holy,

Her morals conversed and sanctified,

and she took on the qualities of the all-embracing Names.

And she was characterized with the essence of names.

جاءت لها الأرواح في محرابها

جاءت لها الأرواح في محرابها

فهي البَتُول أُخيَّة العذراءِ

فهي البَتُول أُخيَّة العذراءِ

The spirits came to her in her prayer chamber,

The souls came to her in her shrine,

for she is the chaste maiden, the Virgin’s little sister.

She is the chaste, sister of the Virgin.

وهي الحَصانُ فما تزنُّ بريبته

وهي الحَصانُ فما تزنُّ بريبته

وهي الرَّزانُ شقيقةُ الحمراءِ

وهي الرَّزانُ شقيقةُ الحمراءِ

And she is chaste, so she is not suspected of his wrongdoing,

She is the mare, so she doesn’t waver in her pace,

and she is dignified, the Red One’s full sister.

She is serene, sister of the red camel.

نزلتْ تبشِّرها ملائكة السما

نزلتْ تبشِّرها ملائكة السما

ليلاً بنيلِ وراثةِ النباء

ليلاً بنيلِ وراثةِ النباء

The angels of heaven descended to bring her glad tidings

The angels of the sky descended to give her glad tidings,

by night, of attaining the inheritance of the prophets.

At night of attaining the inheritance of prophethood.
