1. ما كلُّ ما أنا منه

    وكلُّ ما أنا فيه

    Not everything I am part of,

    nor everything I am within,

  2. يرضى به غيرُ عبد

    لسرِّه يصطفيه

    is accepted by any but a servant

    whom He chooses for His secret.

  3. إذا تألم منه

    حباً به يشفيه

    If he suffers because of Him,

    out of love for Him, He heals him.

  4. لذا تعوَّذ منه

    به عسى يكفيه

    Thus he sought refuge from Him

    in Him, that He might suffice him.

  5. هذا الذي قلتُ عنه

    سمعتُهمن فيه

    This that I said about Him

    I heard from His mouth,

  6. في حالةِ النومِ عني

    به وعن معتقيه

    in a state of sleep, oblivious to myself

    through Him, and to His liberators.

  7. سبحانه وتعالى

    بنا عن التنزيه

    Glory be to Him, and He is exalted

    through us above declarations of incomparability.

  8. فالحدُّ في التنزيه

    كالحدِّ في التشبيه

    For limitation in declaring Him incomparable

    is like limitation in likening Him to creation.

  9. فحدُّه كل حدٍّ

    للخلق إذ هو فيه

    So His limit is every limit

    of creation, since He is in it;

  10. بل عينه ولهذا

    تراه يستوفيه

    rather, He is its very self—and therefore

    you see Him encompass it fully.
