My God, when I call, the hearing is You.

And whoever answered You answered You; You are the interpreter.

Things became one, since You were their very essence.

And there is nothing there but a hearer and a speaker,

With 'Be!'—which is God's word—and the command is His.

And its meaning has come from You in the Qur'an:

Grant him protection if he seeks to hear Our speech.

Then he recites to him the recitation from You.

He who is One became divided in sensory perception,

Mighty, pure in essence, He does not become divided.

Through His account of Himself, not through our reason,

So He declares what my reason keeps silent about.

I looked at Him from close by, and indeed I

am distant because of my limitation; and limitation is love of illusion.

If the one you called 'the other' is His very self,

Then within Himself, from Himself, He rules.
