لباسيmy garb لباسُthe garb of المتيقنone who is certain وإننيand indeed I
عريٌّbare منof التقوىpiety إذاwhen كنتُI am كاسياclothed
My garb is the garb of one who is certain, yet I
My garment is the garment of the certain, though I
am bare of piety when I am clothed.
Am bare of piety when I am clad.
دعانيcalled me مناديthe caller of الحقِّthe Truth منfrom بينbetween أضلعيmy ribs
فلوso, had مكانplace; room (wording uncertain here) توفيقٌdivine aid أجبتُI would have answered المنادياthe caller
The caller of the Truth called me from between my ribs.
The caller of truth called me from between my ribs.
So, had there been room for divine aid, I would have answered the caller.
Had there been the means to respond, I'd have answered the caller,
ولماand when رأىhe saw تركthe withholding of الإجابةthe answer لمdid not يقمlinger
وراحand departed وخلىand left القلبthe heart فيat الحالthat moment خالياempty
And when he saw the failure to answer, he did not linger,
But when he saw the withholding of response, he left
but departed and left the heart empty at once.
And went away, leaving the heart empty in that moment.
ولوand had غيرsomeone other than داعيthe caller of الحقِّthe Truth نادىcalled out منfrom الحشىthe inward depths
أجابwould have answered فؤاديmy heart صوتهhis voice إذwhen دعانياhe called me
And had someone other than the Truth’s caller called from the inward depths,
And had it been other than the caller of truth calling from the bushes,
my heart would have answered his voice when he called me.
My heart would have answered his voice when he called me.
