وجوديmy existence وجودُthe existence of العارفينthe knowers لأنهمbecause they
كمثلِlike الذيthe one whom أشهدتهI made him witness أشهدwere made to witness (split verb) واحقاthey + truly (apparently joined text)
My existence is the existence of the knowers, for they
My existence is the existence of the knowers, for they
Are like the one I made to witness: they were truly made to witness.
Are like those I have witnessed, I witness truly
فعينهمُso their essence عينيmy essence ولستُand I am not سوىother لهمto them
ولوand even if أطلقواthey termed it جمعاًunion ولوand even if أطلقواthey termed it فرقاseparation
So their essence is my essence, and I am no other to them,
Their eyes are my eyes, and I am none but them
Even if they call it union, even if they call it separation.
Be they joined or separated, universally or particularly
وكونهمُand their being كونthe being of الإلهGod كماjust as أناI
فقلso say إنْif تشاyou wish حقاًthe Real وقلand say إنif تشاyou wish خلقاcreation
And their being is God's being, as is mine.
And their being is the being of God, as I am
So say 'the Real,' if you wish, and say 'creation,' if you wish.
Say truth if you wish, or say creation if you wish
كزيتونةlike an olive tree قامتstood علىupon ساقِthe stem of موجوديmy existent being
فماso not هيit فيin غربٍthe west ولاand not رأتِit saw الشرقاthe east
Like an olive tree that stood upon the stem of my existent being,
Like an olive tree standing on the leg of my existence
So it is not in the west, nor has it seen the east.
Neither westbound nor eastbound did it see
تعالتrose high عنbeyond الأرواحthe spirits لاno ميلinclination عندهاwith it
ويمطرهاand showers it السحبthe clouds الذيthat يُخرجُbrings forth الودقاthe rain
It rose above the spirits; it has no inclination.
Transcending spirits, without inclination it has
And the clouds that bring forth rain shower it.
And the clouds that bring forth drizzle rain upon it
فمنهاso from it بداappeared إلىto; toward ساقSāq (dove-name element) حرٍّḤurr (dove-name element) كماjust as بدتْit appeared
لعينيto my eye منهاfrom it المطوقةthe collared dove الورقاgray
So from it, something appeared to Sāq Ḥurr, just as there appeared
From it appeared to the leg of a free man, as appeared
To my eye, from it, the gray collared dove.
To my eyes from it, the leafy foliage
فعاينتso I beheld آحاداًindividual ones ولمand did not أرsee كثرةًmultiplicity
وقدand indeed قلتI said فيماin what قلتهI said it الحقَّthe truth والصدقاand truthfulness
So I beheld individual ones, and saw no multiplicity.
So I witnessed unities, and saw no multiplicity
And in what I said, I spoke truth and truthfulness.
And I have spoken in what I spoke the truth and honesty
ونظمتand I composed أبياتاًverses منof الشعرpoetry فيهماabout them both
وماand not كانwas نطقيmy speech بلrather هماthose two عيناthe two eyes/essences of النطقاspeech
And I composed verses of poetry about them both.
And composed verses of poetry about them
And it was not my speech; rather, those two were the twin eyes of speech.
Not my speech, but they are the essence of speech
سواسيةٌequal أسنانُteeth of مشطٍa comb تراهمُyou see them
وهمand they فيin سفالlowness جاوزواthey passed beyond الدوحthe great trees والأفقاand the horizon
You see them equal, like the teeth of a comb.
The teeth of a comb they are, you see them
And while low down, they passed beyond the great trees and the horizon.
And in a lowland beyond hills and horizon they are
لهمthey have حركاتmovements فيin سكونstillness فصنعهُمso their work
صنيعُthe work of الذيthe one who منfor أجلهhis sake أوجدواthey brought into being الفرقاseparation
They have movements in stillness; so their work
They have motions in stillness, so their maker
Is the work of the one for whose sake they brought separation into being.
Is He for whom they were created, the separator
فيفعلso he acts بالشكلthrough the form المعينspecified وضعهits placement
لذاكfor that reason تراهyou see him يحفظpreserves الرتقthe joining والفتقاand the sundering
So he acts through the form whose placement is specified.
So He acts in the form that He has set for it
For that reason, you see him preserving the joining and the sundering.
Thus you see Him preserving harmony and rupture
