Look at the Real through what names signify,

And His being the very essence of my whole, the very essence of my parts.

If he would do me justice, he who knows what

Appears to him of my turning away and my inclining.

My Lord's names cannot be numbered,

Nor can they be encompassed, just like my names.

If I speak, I speak through Him; or if He speaks, He speaks through us.

The matter is intertwined, like the seen and the seer.

The essence is one, though the judgment varies.

So look through Him, from your own self, at the hint in my gesture.

Light has no color that distinguishes it,

And through glass it has colors, like water.

Water has no shape that confines it,

Except the vessel; in its confinement lies my malady.

The malady is a buried malady with no cure.

How can there be a cure, when my malady is the very essence of my maladies?

I seek a cure for a malady that never leaves me.

Far beyond reach! How can a malady be cured by a malady?

I speak with lām, not with bāʾ; indeed, we have

Someone who disputes with me over speaking with bāʾ.
