إنَّ البروجَ أماكن مقدَّرة

إنَّ البروجَ أماكن مقدَّرة

في أطلس تحدثُ الأيّامُ دورتَهْ

Indeed, the zodiacal signs are allotted places

The constellations are destined places

in a starless sphere, whose revolution the days bring about.

In an atlas where days make their rounds

ولا تزال إلى ما لا انقضاءَ له

ولا تزال إلى ما لا انقضاءَ له

فاحفظه لا يحجبنكَ اليومَ سورتهْ

فاحفظه لا يحجبنكَ اليومَ سورتهْ

And it continues toward that which has no end.

And will remain until there is no end

So keep it in mind; let not its fury veil you today.

So preserve it, let not its form veil you today

فما لغيرته في الخلد من أثرٍ

فما لغيرته في الخلد من أثرٍ

لكن تؤثر في الأركانِ غيرته

لكن تؤثر في الأركانِ غيرته

Its jealousy has no effect in eternity,

For its change has no effect in eternity

but its jealousy affects the elements.

But its change affects the pillars

لولا تحركُه لم ندرِ ما زمَن

لولا تحركُه لم ندرِ ما زمَن

ففيه حيرتنا وفيه حيرته

ففيه حيرتنا وفيه حيرته

Were it not for its motion, we would not know what time is.

If not for its motion, we'd not know what time is

In it lies our bewilderment, and in it its own bewilderment.

In it is our confusion, and its confusion

وما استقامتُه إلاَّ تمايلُه

وما استقامتُه إلاَّ تمايلُه

فإنه عورةٌ والكلُّ عورته

فإنه عورةٌ والكلُّ عورته

Its straightness is nothing but its swaying,

And its straightness is but its leaning

for it is nakedness, and the whole is its nakedness.

For it is a defect, and all are its defects

فما ترى في وجودِ الكونِ من أثر

فما ترى في وجودِ الكونِ من أثر

إلا وفيه إذا حققت صورتَه

إلا وفيه إذا حققت صورتَه

You see no trace in the existence of the cosmos

So whatever effect you see in existence

but its form is there within it, if you truly discern.

If you verify, is its very image

فكل منزلةٍ في الكونِ ظاهرةٌ

فكل منزلةٍ في الكونِ ظاهرةٌ

وإنما هي في التحقيق سورته

وإنما هي في التحقيق سورته

Thus every station in the cosmos is manifest,

Thus every position in the universe is apparent

yet in truth it is only its chapter.

And in truth it is but its form

فلا تذّمنّ دهراً لستَ تعرفه

فلا تذّمنّ دهراً لستَ تعرفه

فالدهر من شهدتْ بالملك فطرته

فالدهر من شهدتْ بالملك فطرته

So do not revile a time you do not know,

So do not blame an era you do not know

for Time is the one whose innate nature attests to sovereignty.

For the era is from the One whom nature witnessed

به تواصلتِ الأشياء وانصرمتْ

به تواصلتِ الأشياء وانصرمتْ

فسيرةُ الدهر في الأشياء سيرته

فسيرةُ الدهر في الأشياء سيرته

Through it things joined together and were severed.

Through it things continued and passed

Thus Time's conduct among things is its conduct.

So the way of time with things is its way

وليس يدري بها إلا الذي حسنت

وليس يدري بها إلا الذي حسنت

مع المهيمن في سرِّ سريرته

مع المهيمن في سرِّ سريرته

And none knows it save the one whose inward nature is good

And none knows it except He who is well

with the Guardian, in its innermost secret.

With the Overseer in the secret of His confidant

ما التفت الساقُ بالساق التي تُليت

ما التفت الساقُ بالساق التي تُليت

إلا تقول قد التفَّت غديرته

إلا تقول قد التفَّت غديرته

The shank never entwined with the shank that was recited

No foot turned but to say it turned its anklet

without your saying: 'His plait has already entwined.'

Except to say it turned its stream
