إن الزمان الذي ما زلت أحصيه

إن الزمان الذي ما زلت أحصيه

لقد تقضَّى وما حصلته فيه

لقد تقضَّى وما حصلته فيه

Indeed, the time that I have kept counting

The time that I have been counting

has surely passed, yet I did not attain what I sought within it.

Has passed and I did not accomplish in it what I hoped

لقد صبرتُ عليه إذ يعاندني

لقد صبرتُ عليه إذ يعاندني

وقد درى بالذي فيه أقاسيه

وقد درى بالذي فيه أقاسيه

I bore it patiently as it opposed me,

I was patient with it though it resisted me

though it knew what I suffered within it:

And knew what I was enduring in it

من فقد كون أمورٍ كنت اطلبُها

من فقد كون أمورٍ كنت اطلبُها

منه ليوفي بعهدٍ كان يوفيه

منه ليوفي بعهدٍ كان يوفيه

the absence of things I used to seek

One who misses being able to do what he sought

from it, that it might honor a pledge it used to fulfill.

For it to fulfill a promise it was fulfilling

وقد أتى زمنُ التقريب يطلبني

وقد أتى زمنُ التقريب يطلبني

بالشكر إذا جاد لي بالوصل من فيه

بالشكر إذا جاد لي بالوصل من فيه

And the time of being brought near has come, asking me

And the time of reconciliation came seeking me

for gratitude, when the one within it generously grants me union.

With gratitude when it was generous to me with connection, whoever was in it

فقلت يا زمني إني به زَمِنٌ

فقلت يا زمني إني به زَمِنٌ

وأنتَ والله لا تدري وأدريه

وأنتَ والله لا تدري وأدريه

So I said, 'O my time, I am indeed crippled by him;

So I said: O my time, I am displeased with it

and you, by God, do not know, while I know him.'

While you, by Allah, do not know, though I know it
