إنيindeed I وذكرby the remembrance of مَنthe One who يأتيcomes فيذكرنيthen remembers me
بأفضلِwith the finest الذكرremembrance فيwithin نفسٍa self وفيand in ملأan assembly
Indeed, I swear by the remembrance of Him who comes and remembers me,
Whenever one who remembers me comes along, he remembers me in the best way, in his soul and openly.
with the finest remembrance, within Himself and in an assembly—
That God whose mystical knowledge is all-encompassing, was told of by the infallible Master in the prophecy,
ذاكthat الإلهGod الذيwho عمَّتencompassed all عوارفهHis favors
أتىcame بهwith Him السيدthe master المعصومُthe infallible فيin النبأthe report
that God whose favors encompass all,
Just as the story of the hoopoe who spoke truly, telling the prophet of the wind about Sheba's news,
of whom the infallible master brought word in the report.
So the remembrance veils me, and the remembrance unveils for me the hiddenness of the sky and the earth's secrets in the prophecy.

Just as tidings came from a hoopoe; truthful were
It is true and fortified, though I cannot put it into words, yet I am in fertile pasture.
its reports to the prophet of the wind, from Sheba.
I see the eye in tightness and spaciousness, since I polished the mirror of my heart of rust.
فالذكرfor remembrance يحجبنيveils me والذكرand remembrance يكشفُunveils ليfor me
خَبأَwhat is hidden السماءِof heaven وخبأand what is hidden الأرضof earth فيin نبأa report
For remembrance veils me, and remembrance unveils for me
And whenever I tread his gathering-places, the gathering-places of remembrance, untrodden by strangers,
what is hidden in heaven and what is hidden in earth, in a report
Except that asking questions was not prevented by stinginess, but because acquiring knowledge did not please him.
صِدقٌtruth ويعضدand it lends support وماand what لاnot أفوهI speak بهof it
فيهin it وإنيand indeed I فيin خصبٍlush abundance منof الكلأpasture
that is true and lends support; and what I do not speak of
That existence I saw is wondrous, in it is loss and profit, if He wills.
is therein, and indeed I am amid lush pasture.
Report to Him my state, O my state, if His clear signs should ask about the obscure prophet,
أشاهدI behold العينthe Essence فيin ضيقٍnarrowness وفيand in سعةٍspaciousness
لماwhen جلوتُI polished مرآةthe mirror القلبِof the heart منfrom صَدأrust
I behold the Essence in narrowness and in spaciousness,
That I am from the lands you inhabit, and am not, by God, from Salmā nor al-Aǧāʾ.
when I polished the heart's mirror free of rust.
If the Merciful brought me into being from a group, then the Unique brought me into being before any group.
وكلماand whenever وطئتtrod رجليmy foot مجالسَهHis assemblies
مجالسassemblies الذكرof remembrance بالأغيارwith others لمdid not تطأtread
And whenever my foot has trodden His assemblies,
I found knowledge that none deny, except one who is struggling and tired.
it has not trodden assemblies of remembrance with others.

لكنهbut He لاقتضاءbecause of the requirement of العلمknowledge لمdid not يشأwill
Yet it was not from stinginess that He denied the request;
rather, as knowledge required, He did not will it.

Indeed, the existence I have beheld is a wonder:
in it are loss and gains, if He wills.

that I am from lands where You dwell,

If the All-Merciful brought me into being from an assembly,
then the Unique One brought me into being before any assembly.

Indeed, I have found kinds of knowledge that none denies,
except one who is in hardship and toil.
