إذا كنتَ المسيحَ وكنت عبداً

إذا كنتَ المسيحَ وكنت عبداً

إليّ بقول خالقنا رفعتا

إليّ بقول خالقنا رفعتا

If you were the Messiah and were a servant,

'Unto Me'—by our Creator's word, you were raised;

وإن كنتَ المسيحَ وكنتَ تحيي

وإن كنتَ المسيحَ وكنتَ تحيي

مواتا قد بلين لهم رفعتا

مواتا قد بلين لهم رفعتا

and if you were the Messiah and gave life

to dead ones who had decayed—for them you were raised;

إذا ما كنت للرحمن جاراً

إذا ما كنت للرحمن جاراً

وفت العالمين ندى دفعتا

وفت العالمين ندى دفعتا

if indeed you were a neighbor to the All-Merciful,

and surpassed the worlds in the bounty you bestowed,

فلا تغتر بالتقريب منه

فلا تغتر بالتقريب منه

فإنَّ الله ينظر ما صنعتا

فإنَّ الله ينظر ما صنعتا

then do not be deluded by being drawn near to Him,

for God looks at what you have done.

ويقسمه على قسمين علما

ويقسمه على قسمين علما

لينظر في الذي فيه ابتدعتا

لينظر في الذي فيه ابتدعتا

And He divides it into two parts in knowledge,

to examine that in which you innovated;

فيفصله التعرف منه حالا

فيفصله التعرف منه حالا

يعرفكم بما فيه اتبعتا

يعرفكم بما فيه اتبعتا

then self-disclosure from Him distinguishes it in experience,

acquainting you with that in which you followed,

لتبصر ما فضلت به اتباعا

لتبصر ما فضلت به اتباعا

على الأمر الذي فيه اخترعتا

على الأمر الذي فيه اخترعتا

so you may see the advantage you gained through following

over the matter in which you devised something new.
