I have become like the sons of Jacob when they came

before al-ʿAzīz and said, “Hardship has afflicted us.

And our families with us—most of them have been afflicted

by the same hardship that afflicted us, with no refuge.”

Indeed, the One who has accustomed us to gracious treatment

is God, to whom humankind bows.

Indeed, created beings, however mighty, and however abundant

their wealth, have been created to be in need.

So none is self-sufficient except the All-Merciful; so be content with Him

as a generous Lord; He is the One sought, so remember.

Thus has it been decreed, in the eyes of all people,

by God's law and what reflection has granted them.

Indeed, we have been united in affirming our Provider's oneness,

without disagreement, on the basis of what reflections have yielded.

And in revelation there came from Him what bears us out,

so what the report has already confirmed holds true in reason.
