Thus I did something that, in your eyes, violated a command.

I came to you as something extraordinary

إلى حضرةٍ ذوقيةٍ شربها أمرا

إلى حضرةٍ ذوقيةٍ شربها أمرا

Oh, if only I knew who travels our path

I wish I knew who would walk our walk

to a presence known through tasting, drinking of it as a command.

To a spiritual presence whose drink was a matter

إذا رويت أكبادنا من شَرابها

إذا رويت أكبادنا من شَرابها

وأحدث في الأكوان من شربها أمرا

وأحدث في الأكوان من شربها أمرا

When our livers are quenched by its drink,

When our livers are watered from her drink

and I bring something about in the worlds through drinking it,

And her drink affects the universes in some way

وصحتْ لنا في العالمين خلافة

وصحتْ لنا في العالمين خلافة

خلعتُ بها عن ذاته النهي والأمرا

خلعتُ بها عن ذاته النهي والأمرا

and vicegerency is established for us in the worlds,

And the vicegerency was sound for us in the two worlds

I cast off, through it, prohibition and command from his essence.

I stripped from it prohibitions and commands
